Founder & Managing Director

Nontobeko Mvuyana (Sangweni)

Nontobeko Mvuyana (Sangweni) is the founder and Managing Director of Khangela Consulting, an accounting and business consulting practice established in 2023.

Her journey into accounting began long before Khangela Consulting. From primary school, Nontobeko developed a strong interest in numbers — an interest that led her to choose the commerce stream in high school and eventually pursue a B.Com in Accounting, majoring in Financial Accounting.

Her journey to university was also shaped by the encouragement of her high school principal, who played an important role in helping her pursue higher education and choose the right course.

Her roots

From KwaMaphumulo to Building Khangela

Nontobeko grew up in KwaMaphumulo, a village outside Stanger in KwaZulu-Natal. Her upbringing helped shape the values she brings into her work today — particularly respect, humility and treating people with dignity.

“Respect will always open doors for you.”

— a lesson from her grandmother, which continues to influence how she approaches clients and their financial and compliance challenges.

More Than Six Years of SARS Experience

Before building Khangela Consulting, Nontobeko spent more than six years at the South African Revenue Service (SARS) as a Service Consultant. Her experience included working in branch operations, tax-base broadening and taxpayer education — giving her exposure to a wide range of taxpayer and compliance matters, from registration and submissions to audits, objections and payment arrangements.

Why Khangela Consulting exists

The Insight That Led to Khangela

Working at SARS gave Nontobeko a close view of the challenges many taxpayers face. She often encountered people who were struggling with SARS matters but did not know where to turn or how to navigate the process. The experience strengthened her desire to work more closely with people and provide the kind of support she felt she could not always provide within a large institution. Eventually, she knew it was time for a new chapter — one where she could build a business around helping clients directly.

Why Khangela?

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name Khangela has personal meaning for Nontobeko — it is her husband's clan name, which she chose to carry into the business.

Built from 2023

The Business Journey

Khangela Consulting was established in 2023. Like many small businesses, the journey has not always been easy. But the business has continued to grow through a simple commitment: prioritising clients' compliance and helping them deal with their financial and tax responsibilities with greater confidence.

Who we serve

Supporting Small Businesses Wherever They Are

Many of Khangela Consulting's clients are small business owners who need help getting and keeping their tax affairs in order. Common needs include:

Tax Return Submissions

Tax Compliance

Tax Clearance-Related Support

SARS-Related Matters

Administrative Compliance

Ongoing Reminders & Follow-Up

Although Khangela Consulting is based in Durban, its services are not limited to KwaZulu-Natal. The business works with clients remotely and has served clients beyond South Africa, including clients in China.

The Khangela difference

“We Don't Just File and Disappear.”

One of the frustrations Nontobeko sees among small business owners is that they may receive assistance with a filing or submission, only to be left to remember the next deadline themselves.

Khangela Consulting takes a more involved approach. Where appropriate, clients receive follow-up and reminders when it is time to deal with their next compliance requirement.

The goal is simple:

  • Don't just help clients today
  • Help them stay organised for what comes next

Client outcome

From Compliance Stress to Relief

Many clients approach Khangela Consulting when they already have compliance problems — including outstanding returns, penalties or amounts owed to SARS. The objective is to help them understand their position, address the relevant requirements and move forward with greater clarity.

“I want them to go to bed relieved knowing that their tax and compliance affairs are taken care of.”

A real compliance win

A Client Success Story

One client approached Khangela Consulting with more than R50,000 in administrative penalties after failing to submit returns. Khangela Consulting worked through the outstanding submissions and assisted the client with addressing their compliance position through the appropriate SARS processes — a process that resulted in the client being saved more than R50,000 in administrative penalties.

Outcomes depend on individual circumstances and SARS's own assessment, and cannot be guaranteed for every client.

A lesson from SARS

Understanding Request for Remission

One area of SARS processes that Nontobeko believes many taxpayers are unaware of is the Request for Remission process. In appropriate circumstances, taxpayers may request remission of certain administrative penalties — whether a request succeeds depends on the circumstances and SARS's own assessment. Nontobeko's practical experience dealing with taxpayers and compliance matters has helped her understand how important it is for clients to address these issues rather than simply accept a penalty without exploring the available process.
